When I made my first visit to Newfoundland I was with my now husband Gerard. We went to his hometown, Fleur de Lys. We were out shopping in Baie Verte, a few miles away, when I seen these neat red "things." I asked my husband what they were, and can we pick up a pack so I can put them on our Christmas tree. He looked at me oddly but we bought a pack anyway. I proudly took my new purchase back to his mom's to show everyone. "See what I have for my Christmas tree," I say. His mom and sister looked at me as if I came from Mars. His sister Vicki asked Gerard if he told me what they were. He said "no." "Donna, my dear," says Vicki, "Why would you want squid jiggers on your tree?"
