Our three daughters have been cadets with the 2910 Army Cadet Corp in New-Wes-Valley. Here is one of the poems that Robin and Megan have written for Rememberance Day over the past few years.

~ Chess ~


A chess playing field, where the pieces don’t move.
Each piece with its own little groove.
One saying King Chesley Mate,
Rest in Peace, 1964 to 1998.

The pieces mark the bumps in the ground,
That are scattered all around.
Here and there the pieces fall,
On the grass instead of stood tall.

Some pawns are weathered smooth and round,
Marking that square laid in the ground.
Others stand tall, polished and new,
But they are scattered and very few.

Flowers are lying besides the stones,
Setting a memory in different tones.
The memories of them will never fade,
Though their lying beneath the grave.

Kings, Queens, Sisters, Brothers,
Bishops, Rooks and all the others.
Friends and family pray and kneel,
Beside the chess pieces that mark the field.
