Charlie’s Moose Stew
We had a man in our town called Charlie, who had a wife and 15 children. He had 17 mouths to feed, so he wasn't opposed to killing a moose out of season to put food on the table. This one night he had a pot of "illegal" moose stew on the stove when a buddy burst through the door to say that the Mounties were coming. Fortunately, we'd had one of those big snowstorms the day before, so Charlie grabbed the pot, climbed a ladder to the roof and dropped the pot of stew into the pile of snow on the rooftop. The Mounties arrived, could smell the moose stew and looked everywhere for the evidence, but couldn't find it. They even looked outside and saw what they thought was smoke coming from the chimney of the house, never suspecting it was Charlie's moose stew steaming up there. They eventually gave up and left empty handed. When Charlie and his sweet brood sat round the table that night, I suspect that moose stew tasted that much more delicious. Submitted By: NULL
