Life is much about reminiscing, especially for transplanted Newfoundlanders. The years just seem to fade away. I was just looking through some of my old photos and came across this photo of the first Channel-Port Aux Basques PeeWee All-Star Hockey team, which I coached circa 1966-67. Pictured in the front row: Denis Noseworthy, Donnie Loder, Kevin Osmond; middle row: Wayne Sheaves, Todd Marshall, Kenny Bobbit, John Wadden, Jerry Reynolds; and in the back row: Reuben Priddle, Ricky Pardy-Captain, John Hillyard, Glen Anderson, Glen Dominie, Ted Keeping, Coach Derek Harvey. While skills were limited in some ways, they were a fast-skating team that proved they could skate with the best, despite being in their first months of minor hockey. The arena would be packed with upwards of 1,500 spectators when Buchans PeeWee All-Stars came to visit. At the time, little did we know that in later years Channel - Port Aux Basques eventually would win the Allen Cup emblematic of the Senior Hockey Championship of Canada. Most of the Peewee players' fathers worked for the CNR, and several of the players followed their dads down the same career path, only to be transferred all over Canada as operations scaled down in Channel-Port Aux Basques.   Submitted By: NULL
