This week the supper hour news on CBC featured an interview with one of the employees of Chafe's Landing in Petty Harbour. She was talking about fish and chips on Good Friday. My mouth was watering and my mind went back to Petty Harbour. You see, I was born there, along with my three brothers and three sisters - George, Alex, Eugene, Margery, Valda, and Olive. Not only born there in beautiful Petty Harbour but right next to Chafe's Landing! The original house belonged to my parents' (Alice and Weston Williams) best friends Fanny and Edgar Chafe! Our house was small and just behind the bigger one which I think was a grocery store. Tomorrow I will be having fish and chips for Good Friday, but it will be nothing like the meal which will be served up at Chafe's Landing. I am enclosing a picture of me with my two older sisters, Valda and Margery. This was taken in our backyard around 1943-44 - right next door to Chafe's Landing, or as we would say, Fanny and Edgar's.
