It was June 23, 2009, when my 22 year old brother, Riley, set out with our mom to the Town Docks in Penetanguishene, Ontario, for a relaxing evening of fishing for Pickerel. Not long after casting a Red Devin spoon lure close to Hindson Marine, he felt a huge bite on his line. To his disappointment, after tugging on the line a few times, he decided that it must be stuck on a log. Just then, as our mom was about to help him to unsnag, my brother’s fishing line bent in half and the boat began to move. They both knew that no small fish would be able to pull his 14’ aluminum boat with a motor and both of them in it – this must be a big one!

After a lengthy struggle, Riley hauled an exhausted 54 inch, 44.8 lb. Muskie onboard by hand since he hadn’t bothered to bring his net with him that night. With a mixture of terror and exhilaration, our mom ran home to get the camera to obtain proof of the monster catch as it was about an inch too short to keep.

He’s been the talk of the town ever since, has been in the local newspaper, and has his picture hanging on the wall in some local restaurants. This will, no doubt, be his most exciting catch- the one he’ll tell stories to his grandkids about one day. This was his catch of a lifetime!
