Canadian Veterans Remember Fallen Comrades on Foreign Soil

From May 14–25, 2010, a group of Canadian veterans from across Canada, their spouses and some friends made a pilgrimage to Cyprus. This group consisted mainly of former Cyprus UN peacekeepers who were on the return trip they long dreamed of making with their spouses. For some ladies, it was a trip to where their spouses or sons had previously served and for a couple of vets, this was a first time journey they were proud to be a part of. Prior to completing our journey, we visited a British military cemetery in Dhekelia where nine Canadian peacekeepers are buried. We partook in a small ceremony where crosses and Canadian flags were laid to remember our fallen comrades. This ceremony was the highlight of our trip and a special thank you goes out to Garry Best for having the dream of making this return journey.

Note: I did bring copies of the Downhome magazine with me and left them in the hotel for locals and other visitors to read and enjoy.   Submitted By: Dorothy-Ann Shea
