This article appeared in Oct 2010. Here is a short note that I posted on a Barbados Bulletin Board several years ago. Douglas Lythcott was born in Barbados Oct.31.1908. Very few will remember him. He ran away from home at about 10 years old on a ship and never returned. He was given shelter by a Sea Captian at Brookfield, Bonivasta Bay, Newfoundland and what is now Canada. He moved the the west coast of Newfoundland at about 16 yrs old to work in the lumber woods and there was known for his great shape and strength. He took on the name of the family that he lived with and is better remembered by "Johnny Payne". He became a boxer. He first appeared in the ring at St. John's Newfoundland in 1931. He married Marjorie Hollett and had two daughters. Marjorie pasted away recently and his daughters are still living. He went overseas to Scotland with the forestry in WWII. He died in 1965 leaving behind an unknown childhood to the family. He was African American. We believe his mother was white and his father was black. His mom's name may have been Tennessee, he spoke of a cousin Morley. possible sister name Violet. I would like to hear from any information on the "Lythcott" family and locate any relatives just to exchange family interests. Thank you from the Lythcotts of Newfoundland. As you can see, it is a match. Douglas married my fathers sister and I have a lot of fine memories of him, my Aunt Marge and my two cousins Dolly and Linda while we were going up.   Submitted By: Bob/Hollett
