We had just moved into a new neighbourhood and were getting to know our new neighbours bit by bit. One afternoon I saw them both in the garage doing some spring cleaning. I invited myself over to say hi and soon we got into trading stories. During one of the stories I mentioned the word "buddy." Well I thought my neighbour was going to lose it! He quickly retoted, "Don't come over here talking about Buddy!" He explained that 20 years ago he had worked in Labrador City and in the evenings at the camp all the men talked about was "Buddy." Well, this Buddy could skipper a ship, run a dairy farm, had ten children and was a bush pilot to boot. One evening he had remarked that "Buddy sounded like an extraordinary man and that he could not wait to meet him." Afer everyone had a good laugh he was told "buddy" was a Newfoundland term that refers to anyone.   Submitted By: NULL
