Brigadoon
Dec. 15/10
I visited my aunt in Chattanooga, Tennessee a couple of months ago, and she gave me this poem she had written about Newfoundland. Thought it would be nice to share with you.
Brigadoon
There is a place called Brigadoon.
I know for I've been there.
I lived my youth in Brigadoon,
I spent my yester year.
In Brigadoon, they sing and dance
and work for daily bread.
They give their God His honest dues
before they go to bed.
Now if this land sounds fairy tale,
it's very real indeed.
You can travel to this lovely place
any time you need.
This land of such enchantment
is not so far away.
You can get to see its wonders,
in only just a day.
You will be wrapped up in its mysteries,
of time that's standing still,
of the time that's moving far ahead
of many people's will.
The place where man and nature
are very much in tune.
Where the waters of old Neptune
pay homage to the moon.
You will meet the lovely people,
with language all their own.
Look upon the faces where
the wind and sun have shone.
When you live Brigadoon,
you will let it slip away.
You will be haunted by its memories
as you live from day to day.
With the memory of the people, the water,
rock and sand,
you will go back to Brigadoon,
this place called "Newfoundland."
In the words of the famous poet,
you can't go home again.
But when you hear "I love you"
You know that you have been home again,
in Brigadoon.
