Black Sheep
"Black Sheep A thousand miles of coastline Including Labrador Battered by the ocean And kept forever poor. From our coastal villages We stare across the waves And see the foreign vessels, sailing, On our father’s graves. A land of untold riches: That swims within the sea; That lies beneath the ocean floor, And, we ask! How can this be? Our life-blood from the ocean Will increase the common wealth And with water from the Churchill, We drink to another’s health. They say that we have nothing And that we cannot pay, But, our “nothing”, keeps mainland factories Humming, every day. Why won’t they crunch the figures And do a balance sheet? Find out, what we’ve given And, find out, what we keep. The trees have left the forests The fish have left the sea The water flows to others The ore you get for free. And now you want the oil To make the rape complete, But put this in YOUR Globe and Mail “The sheep have learned to bleat“. W.H.B. " Submitted By: NULL
