It was in the early spring, around 1939 or 40, when my buddy across the road came up the lane with an armful of long black sticks of something I'd never seen before, but that I now know was dynamite. He found it on the beach. He had about 10 sticks; it came in on the lee. We got some sticks of wood, put the dynamite on top, and lit the fire. It went out; he said we should get kerosene oil. We got some, threw it on the dynamite, lit the match and threw it on - a fine fire. He said we should run; he went one way, and I went another. When she blew, the blast drove me headfirst into the bog hole. What a mess - it blew the side out of the hill, and broke a lot of dishes in the houses. Nobody ever found out who or what it was. My friend passed on some years ago. I wonder if anyone around Burnt Head, Cupids remembers this. I was 77 years old January past.   Submitted By: NULL
