Berry Picking
I went to my aunt’s shortly after I arrived in Garnish, to find most of my cousins and my aunt around the kitchen table and immediately joined them. My wife, Margie, was with me as we sat down. Towards the end of our visit I said to my cousin Bertha, “Hey Bert, come blueberry picking with me tomorrow?”
She said, “No, me son, I'm not going blueberry picking with you.” I was rather offended by her quick response and it bothered me so I said, “Margie is coming along.” She said, “No, No, I don’t mean it that way! Me son,” she continued, “look at us, you’re deaf and so am I. If a moose came, neither one of us would hear it!”
“Well” I said, “Margie is with us and she is not deaf." That’s when my wife spoke up and said, “If you two think I’m hanging around to tell you there’s a moose anywhere in the vicinity, forget it!
