Battle of Covid-19
By Charles Beckett It happened to appear late in that year In China, that far-Eastern frontier Not a Carona beer, but a menace to fear We felt smug and secure over here Italy was next to attract the attack Fatalities started to rise Towns were locked down, streets turned into morgues Workers toiled to defer the demise The next hotspot was Spain, sprung from a ball game They celebrated as soccer fans can Soon the coughs and the sneezes of such deadly diseases Like a wildfire spread to Iran After a little delay it reached the U.S.A. Now a little closer to home When the U.S. sneezes, Canada catches a cold Now manifested, that saying well-known Termed now a pandemic, there's anxiety and panic Travel was restricted, borders were closed Strict screening, deep cleaning, isolation and streaming Front-line workers are stressed and exposed The cases they mount, too many to count We are given a daily update Royals and celebs well-known, skid-row Joe or Joan Their estate don't determine their fate With no sport scores and stores, we hole-up in-doors Keep our distance, avoiding the throng With our Netflix and chips, avoiding conflicts Staying upbeat with music and song This morbid seclusion is now no illusion It's real, but how long will it last We got through the plague, Spanish flu and the SARS Be patient, look up, it will pass.
