Baskets the Mighty One-Speed
Baskets The Mighty One-Speed A Tribute by Debra S. Carlisle Smith (You can read it as a poem or sing it to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon") Here's a few things to know before reading: 1) I had a bike with 3 baskets 2) Bernie (brother) called nickles, nackles. He also had bad tonsils and would smack his cereal in the morning. 3) If we were naughty, Mom used to often say, "I'm going to brain you kids" 4) Twelve Men was a song us kids sang in church 5) Debra Eve (don't know how she got that name, she may have had a tag on her) was a cotton doll that we played with in puddles. She was really heavy and Mom wouldn't let us bring her back in the house. "Baskets the Mighty One-Speed" Baskets the mighty one speed lived on 'Lizabeth Street And frolicked in the summer sun in the land of goulash reheat Little Debbie Susan loved that rascal bike And brought him things like jumping rope, newspapers the like Oh, Baskets the mighty one speed lived on 'Lizabeth Street And frolicked in the summer sun in the land of goulash reheat Oh, Baskets the mighty one speed lived on 'Lizabeth Street And frolicked in the summer sun in the land of goulash reheat Together they would travel the bumpy newspaper beat Debbie kept a lookout perched on Basket's comfy seat Cathy, Bernie Rusty would shout whene'er they came Little Tami would drop her dolls and holler out his name Oh, Baskets the mighty one speed lived on 'Lizabeth Street And frolicked in the summer sun in the land of goulash reheat Oh, Baskets the mighty one speed lived on 'Lizabeth Street And frolicked in the summer sun in the land of goulash reheat Mother in green stirrups, hands placed upon her hips Said to her third child, "Please stop them smackin lips" Bernie took off on Baskets with a nackle in his grip Down to George's Market twas his favourite candy trip Rusty started digging for what treasure he could find He ran around so excited, for he had found a dime!
