My first husband was from St George's Newfoundland and one summer about 50 yrs ago we drove by car down to Newfoundland from Ontario for a visit to his mother's in St. George's. I was from Cape Breton but I loved Newfoundland. We were down there either late August or very early in Sept. We happened to be there in time for their annual Garden Party. I don't think it was held in St George's but a small place nearby. They were getting ready for the "stay in your car" Bingo. I was a bingo player so I was happy to partake. The idea was if you had bingo you would honk your car horn and the caller would come over to the car to check your card. The cards we used had little sliders and as your number showed up on the card you would push over the little slide. You could play with quite a number of cards. The final bingo was a $500 game (full house). I had bingo, but when my husband went to honk the horn it was dead. I was screaming and waving my hands and the caller noticed me. He came over to me, checked my card and I had bingo. The $500 helped to pay for getting the horn fixed.   Submitted By: NULL
