Autumn Leaves
Over hill and plain their brightness glows
As they precede the coming snows
Like shining stars of autumn gold
Reflecting the light within the soul.
As I walk by they're everywhere
As thick as autumn's cooler air
Beneath my feet on every trail
On every tree both bright and pale
I photograph them pale and bright
To later reflect on their beauty and light
Their theme, it seems, a reflection of me
I live, I shine, I fade like these.
From these leaves I sense something deeper
An awesome power that makes them weaker
For the same power that created me
Can be perceived in the autumn tree
They lift my spirit to things unseen
An inner peace, great to serene
And the course of life that flows in me
Is similar to that of the autumn leaves.
