Autumn Colours
Autumn Colours
Down on the Cape the combers roll
in from the north this autumn day
And dash against Green Island's cliffs
and send to sky a mist of spray
Such is the way of autumn time
more northern wind than summer days
When soft wind blows from the sou'west
and it is calmer on the bay
In later autumn there is not
much colour to the sea or sky
More grey than blue seen in those days
that led to winter by and by
And in the woods leaves drop from trees
a golden carpet on the ground
And on the windy autumn days
they rustle and blow all around
The ponds are now a steely blue
a crimson red on barren ground
Upon the hills there is a chill
as northern wind makes moaning sounds
A splash of colour in the woods
as autumn shuts the summer down
But in the winter solstice time
just white and dark green will be found
