Aunt Mary Ellen Carew’s Sewing Machine
Here is a picture of my Aunt Mary Ellen's sewing machine.
When we were growing up we spent a lot of time at her house. I loved listening to the stories she told about when the ships would anchor over in the cove or the dances they would go to. She made the best date squares.
Many a time when I would go there she would be sitting at her sewing machine. I loved watching her sew and how I wish I had a picture of her sewing, but we didn't have very many cameras at that time, at least we didn't.
But I will always have this memory of her.
When I left and came here to Goose Bay my sister Carmel often visited her and helped her with some cleaning, so one day she asked my sister if she would like the sewing machine for helping her with her cleaning. Well, she jumped at the chance. My sister passed away a few years back and before she died, she asked me if I would like the sewing machine. I couldn't believe it. So that is how I became the owner of this beautiful sewing machine .
I can still see my aunt sitting and sewing and of course, telling the stories I loved to hear.
RIP in peace Aunt Mary Ellen. You will never be forgotten.
