And I Remember
AND I REMEMBER
And I remember
Sitting
Alone on a high, rocky cliff,
Watching the icebergs stand,
Also alone, also stiff.
As the whales jumped upon the horizon,
They seemed to wave at me.
As boats departed the dock,
Headed out into the vast blue sea.
And I remember
Walking
Out into the fog swept field,
And after arriving at the lake,
I started fishing for a meal.
I saw bushes filled with berries,
And smelled the toutons in my pack.
After being out for an hour
I didn’t want to go back.
And I remember
Living
On this new-found-land,
Or so it was called.
Something about nature or the islands demand.
The friendly way people acted,
Created a sense of being home,
That’s how I reacted.
And I remember
Enjoying
Life off the mainland.
This was my new homeland,
It was as close to home as I could get.
The island and the sea fitting hand-in-hand,
Small towns and cities
That lined the coast.
That I left is quite a pity.
And yes, I do remember
Being
A teen on the isle
Where ocean liners dotted the horizon, and where the landscape went for miles.
But this boy had to go, now when the man returns,
He’ll see what beauty he left,
And sit on the same cliff, as the sea churns.
