ANCHORS AND GRAPPLES
Rusty anchors and grapples stacked up along our shores,Appearing as if the great inshore fishery will never return evermore,Fishermen standing around looking towards their bread and butter sea, The sadness on their faces touched the inner feelings of the heart of me. Anchors kept schooners and steamers from going adrift upon the sea, Grapples moored cod traps, motorboats and punts; no way they could break free, To see so many of each stacked up along the rugged shores, Gave everyone that ghostly feeling, the fishery may never knock again upon our doors. We now vision the wrong doings of others upon our cod fishery shores, When Canadian fishermen were asleep, foreigners were catching fish by galore, others feel sad to see what the great lifelong fishery came to be, So much harm had been done; foreigners felt our 200-mile limit at night was so free. We can only hope and pray that it will all become normal someday, For certain we have to go about fishing in a much different way, So we can then set our rusty anchors and grapples free back in the sea, This will take away all the sadness, and everyone will be in their glee.
