A Young Comes Home
Newfoundland
We are taking a trip to Canada
Flying with Zoom Air
Going to see Gerry and Claire
In Dartmouth Town so fair
We've planned our trip for many a month
Every detail plotted with care
From flights, hotels and hire car
No wonder we've got grey hair
But we're sure it will be worth it
For trips and visits planned
Meeting once again with family and friends
Oh! It will be just grand
We know that Dad's excited
To be going home once more
We've heard so much of childhood days
On Nuffie's rugged shore
Tales of hunting and fishing
Swimming in Deer Lake
Of berry picking, Mum's home cooking
The dory that Dad did make
Then in the year of Thirty Nine
He crossed the ocean blue
To settle on British soil
With forestry work to do
He spent some time in the RAF
Oh! The tales that did unwind
Of drills and courses games and sport
Oh! And some fighting in his spare time
When back in Britain
The big adventure came
He met and married his true love
Mary was her name
They built their lives together
With two sons along the way
The days were spent working on the land
My! How the years have rolled away
Now sixty-eight years have passed
And he is going home once more
To relieve some of the memories
We've heard from days of yore
Our thanks to Claire and Gerry
For having us to stay
Helping us to make this trip
And for being here today
We just want to thank you Dad
For letting us be a part
Of your trip back to Newfoundland
The place you left your heart
