A Young Boy

A Young Boy

A young boy stares out the window
And looks across the bay
The morning fog has lifted
And the sun sends down her rays.

In the distance he sees a seagull
As it glides along the hill
Then it's lost against the sunlight
The harbour is empty once more
And he wonders was it real?

The water is very peaceful now
But it never stays this way
For he knows this little harbour
And the storms that rule the bay.

Yes, by sundown things could be different
The storm clouds may come rolling in
And the water that's now so peaceful
May be stirred up by the wind.

But for now he stands there gazing
As he wonders what to do.
Then his mom's voice breaks the silence
Clifford, I think Andrew waits for you.

Just as quick "Mom, I'll see you later"
And he's headed out the door.
Oh, yes Andrew and his rowboat
Are now waiting by the shore.

He loves these lazy days of summer
And he hopes they would always last
But something down deep inside
Tells him that summer soon will pass.

But, for now he'll enjoy the moment
As he heads down to the shore.
Where the hills and sea are waiting,
And a new adventure is in store.

And for a day he'll look back
And a tear may fill his eye
As he dreams of the little harbour
And the yesterdays gone by.

Then he'll thank God for the memories
Of another place and time.
Of the water, hills and seagulls
That are forever locked in his mind.
