Dear Sir or Madam: While browsing through the March 2010 issue of Downhome, I noticed a selection of symbols for Newfoundland and Labrador. I have picked three symbols; my favourite one is the humpback whale. Reason #1 is the beauty of the humpback whale, which represents the beauty of Newfoundland and Labrador. Reason #2 is the strength of the whale, which represents the strength of our economy. Reason #3 is the size of the whale, which represents the size of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Labrador part of the province is sometimes called the Big Land. Reason #4 is the colour of the whale; it has the dark colour of our land and water. The other symbols I selected are the Atlantic puffin and the iceberg.   Submitted By: NULL
