A Trip to Newfoundland
You can get to Newfoundland from almost anywhere,
Arrive by cruise ships, ferries, pleasure boats or by air.
Our weather is wonderful most of the year,
Some winters are challenging but there is no need to fear.
You’ll experience winds that are moist and warm in spring, summer and fall,
Cooler and brisk in winter but it’s not that bad at all.
You’ll see waves big and rolling sometimes pounding on the shore,
But it’s exhilarating so most first-time visitors feel the need to see more.
Cliffs are so steep and rugged but they can be climbed,
It’s not for the faint of heart, so keep that in mind.
Sandy beaches prevail that are a must to see,
All across this great province lining fresh water and briny sea.
Salt water oceans and thousands of ponds and lakes nearby,
So come visit Newfoundland anytime, with no need to say goodbye.
We have trees that are coniferous as well as deciduous too,
Pine, Juniper, Maple, Oak, Birch and Tamarac just to mention a few.
Our island is huge and is blessed in so many ways,
Just to see a fraction of what is interesting will take dozens off days.
For those who love birds, we have Turns, Gannets, Puffins, Robins and Blue Jays,
So grab your camera and binoculars to enhance your bird watching days.
At certain times of the year you’ll find floating mountains of ice,
Drifting along and grounding on shore close too houses, which is nice.
Our bounty from the sea includes lobster, halibut, caplin and trout,
So bring your fishing gear and ask around, someone may take you out.
We are famous for sighting Pothead, White, Blue, Humpbacks, Sperm and Orca Whales,
So when the time is right, check it out, and when you return home you can tell tall tales.
Our wildlife includes fox, caribou, mighty moose and black bears,
But no snakes, racoons, porcupines or skunks, and really - no one cares.
The largest lake in the province is the deepest at 1500 feet,
We have hundreds of colourful houses, lighthouses, and hiking trails that are steep,
So please come visit us in Newfoundland the first chance you get,
To enjoy each and every day when all of your challenges are finally met.
The people are so friendly so you can ask them anything,
Nothing is too much trouble to promote the joy they know you will bring.
At the end of your vacation when you think you have done it all,
Find a good place to unwind, get Screeched-in at some pub crawl.
Memories are precious and should be shared with your friends,
We don’t want anyone to feel left out, when your amazing vacation ends.
So load up your camera and capture every unique photo that means something to you,
Because helping promote Newfoundland, we know is the best thing you can do.
