A Trip to Lewisporte in 1946
Come listen all ye work men
Of what I have to say
It’s about our trip to Lewisporte
Just after New Year’s day
The trip was made by Glencoe
And what an awful time
For down below the stairway
There wasn’t room to change your mind
The men were packed in edgeways
As tight as they could stay
And this began on Saturday
It soon began to snow
But Sunday came quite early
And to our great delight
The ship was heading westwards
Across the briny bight
And now we wanted breakfast
To keep us all in trim
But to serve it on the ship
Was quite a different thing
For the table was very tiny
For such a hungry crowd
With brewis and hard bread to eat
It did look quite funny
But we finally got to Lewisporte
And what a mighty rush
For t’was straight down to Bursey’s
To get a decent lunch
The ladies were very friendly
In serving out the lunch
For their dinner they cooked for Sunday
They served among the bunch
The dinner was very tasty
And went down very well
But we wanted another serving
For to complete our fill
So with four men at a table
And I was one of them
We ordered another serving
And such it did contain
Twelve cuts of bread and butter
With four hot cups of tea
But to four hungry travellers
Very small it seemed to be
So that had all been eaten
And an order sent for more
Another dozen of bread and butter
And the cups of tea were four
And so in ending up our lunch
We ordered for some more
Four more cuts of bread you see
And four more cups of tea
