A Promise is a Promise
My name is Barbara & Brenda's my twin,
With Newfoundland roots, together we win.
Charlie got a trout for cutting Dad's hair,
Cod, flakes, the pinch, by Jesus that's fair.
Mom told stories of growing up in Grand Bank,
The tidal wave, mummers & schooners that sank.
Chum on The Bretwalda caught an August gale,
Left Merasheen bank, to Brule without sail.
Grandfather went fishing up to Labrador,
Not ever knowing what was in store.
For men to return, grandmother & nan wait,
Hoping & praying, not knowing their fate.
Thanks Mom & Dad for the stories you've told,
We treasure them all, they're as good as gold.
We took you back home with courage & strength,
A promise is a promise, we'd go to any length.
Another trip to Newfoundland, we have to go,
And don't anyone tell us the answer is no.
Patience we ponder as we sip our tea,
With grit & inspiration, let's hear GREAT BIG SEA.
We dance, sing, jump, we rant & we roar,
Oh hooray - GBS you make our spirits soar.
