A Forsaken Harvest
"Deep dark ocean, sustainer of life So giving, once teeming with your gifts You clutched the hearts of those that relied You’ve pulled many into your depths in payment Now pillaged, you lie roaring and crashing Your unwavering depths no longer steadfast Lost, your bounty and harvest is gone Nets are thrown with hope, but reeled in empty Boats crafted with loving hands are tied, vacant For sale signs are posted but are left to die By voice of higher power, your contributions are spent They have handed out your pink slips There will be no rows upon rows of codfish No ocean’s gifts lying salted and drying in the sun There will be no wharves teeming with activity Seagulls screech their cries overhead in hunger Many leaned on you for livelihood Knowledge often passed through generations They stand now staring out in desperation In long lines of unemployment and heavy burdens Your death is mourned as all deaths are Thought fondly of with tales of plentitude and lore For you are in the heart and soul of many Alive and still beckoning to all You are the very essence of a people A driving force, vitality and true spirit Seemingly embedded into our very core Gone but never to be forgotten " Submitted By: NULL
