A Day
Namut? My Mom would pipe up and say.
As I wake and get all dressed up for the day.
I’m going out on the land, I let her and Dad know,
As I open the door to some fresh fallen snow.
I bring a lunch along with my harpoon.
Hoping I’ll run into today’s dinner soon.
The cool crisp air pinches all over my face,
As I walk ahead to some opened up space.
First of the day, I create tracks in the snow,
Let my ancestors guide me on where I should go.
Then there’s one of Earth’s gifts right ahead of me.
I breathe and focus on what I can see.
Some swift skills allow me to bring a feast home.
With pride that I’ve provided for family on my own.
