There once grew up in Lamaline A young man strong and brave He had a hart that was divine A life he tried to save His name was Alexander They called him Sandy King He walked like a Commander He could do most anything< One morning just at sunrise< They heard his mother cry "This may, my son, be a surprise I think I'm gonna die" "Mother dear if you are ill I'll to the doctor go I am a man of strong will< I'll go out o'er the snow" He walked out o'er the rolling hills And onto Grand Bank Pond He was the doctor, got the pills For his mother O so fond Mother waited for her son Back home in Lamaline Soon there was a search begun When Sandy was not seen A storm came on with drifting snow the weather it was cold The winds north east sure did blow And so the story's told Darkness closed upon the town The neighbours gathered round Little did they think lay down This man upon the ground About five miles from his hometown Not for from Joseph's Hummock Poor Sandy's body later found There lying on his stomach A cross now stands to mark the place Where Sandy died for love In heaven his soul is saved by Grace He's soaring like a dove Ben Green This poem was given to Hubert Hooper by Ben Green on July 1st, 1980.
