"rhonda, the spouse of one of my co-workers in moscow is also a newfie, originally from ship cove. in early december we decided to do some christmas shopping as rhonda was going to help me pick out some gifts for my wife. on the appointed saturday morning, us two newfies headed out in my car to go shopping. sure enough, no more than 500 metres from home, a police car pulled us over. the policeman started speaking far too quickly for me to understand him with my minimal skills in the russian language. i told him a couple of times, in broken russian that i don't speak russian. i then offered him my diplomatic identification card which in russian is called a ""cartichtka"". i, however kept calling it a ""cartoushka"", which in russian, means potato. trying to save the day, rhonda starts to use one of two russian phrases she knows. she meant to tell him, in russian, that we didn't understand russian, however she unknowingly selected the other russian phrase that she knew. she proceeded to repeat this phrase a number of times. the policeman thrust my cartichtka back at me in disgust and walked back to his car, muttering under his breath. we drove away and after we discussed it, we realized that i had offered him my diplomatic potato and rhonda had repeatedly yelled at him, ""wrong phone number."""   Submitted By: NULL
