Remembering Coal Delivery

I remember back in my youth in the mid 1940s most homes in St. Johns were heated by coal. It was delivered by horse and cart and usually dumped on the sidewalk in front of your home. From there it was shovelled by the owner through a chute into a bin in the basement. That was a chore I did not particularly relish. The photo shows a horse and cart delivering coal in St Johns in the mid 1940s.
