Just a note to say a huge thank you to the many kind people in Lourdes and Newfoundland for helping us find a gentleman who we first met at the V.G. Hospital in Halifax, N.S. more than 40 years ago. In the Jan. 2011 issue we wrote to your magazine, asking for help to locate this man. We didn't have much to go on - only where we met and the details of his condition at that time. Within days, we received a reply from his daughter (Lila Bungay) and a friend, Len. They replied that they knew the man we were looking for, and proceeded to give us the name of Kenneth O'Quinn, along with his address and phone number. Lila phoned us, and we had a great chat on the phone. We then called Kenny, and were so happy to finally talk to this man, whom we last saw in the early '70's. We decided to meet face-to-face! In Sept. 2011, we took our first trip to Newfoundland. We boarded the ferry in North Sydney, and had an excellent crossing to Port aux Basques. We stayed at the Dream Catcher Lodge in Stephenville during our stay. We drove to Lourdes (40 minutes) to have a visit with Kenny, Lila and Sam, but Kenny was busy that day; he was in the woods, moose hunting - at the age of 80! So, we returned the next day, and we finally met Kenny and his wife, after 40+ years! This was a very emotional time for everyone! The last time we saw Kenneth, we weren't sure if he would survive his injuries, but here we were, meeting again, and this time under much better conditions! And, yes, he did shoot a moose! We spent a great few days with Kenny and his family. We did a bit of sightseeing, chatting and eating lots of Lila's treats! We all clicked as if we knew each other for years! We could only stay a few days, but we sure did squeeze a lot into those few days! The Catholic church in Lourdes was a favourite of ours. So, we just wanted to say "thank you" to the Downhome magazine, Lila, Sam and Ken, Len and also the very nice young man who escorted us to the Lodge. We appreciated everything everyone did for us, and we will be back! Thank you all!
