Molasses Cookies

3/4 cup butter
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 3/4 tsp baking soda
1 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
3/4 tsp allspice
3/4 tsp nutmeg
Sugar, enough to coat

Sugar, enough to coat
Cream together butter and brown sugar. Blend in egg and molasses; mix well. Scrape down bowl and mix again (do not whip in too much air). Sift together dry ingredients and mix in. Cover and chill until dough is firm. Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll dough into small balls and roll in white sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet, and slightly flatten. Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes. Leave on pan to cool slightly. Yields 24.
