Creamy French Icing

2 tbsp water
4 1/2 tbsp white sugar
2 1/3 cups sifted icing sugar
1 egg
2/3 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla

2 1/3 cups sifted icing sugar
1 egg
2/3 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
Boil water and sugar together for a few minutes. Mix icing sugar and egg together; blend with sugar and water mixture. Add shortening and vanilla. Beat with electric mixer until creamy.
