A MID WINTERS NIGHT TALE
RECOLLECTION OF VALENTINES WEEKEND 2014

How is your night going so far? Thought we would interest you in a reflection of a mid-winters night tale from Valentines weekend 2014! Here goes!
There once was a middle aged couple who were deeply in love, making plans for one of their favourite weekends of the year, Valentines! First to prepare a lovely hot luncheon for a few friends; the special gift for each other had already been purchased, and finally tickets to the Valentines weekend dinner and dance at the local Knights of Columbus(K of C) that had been purchased weeks and sitting in the cupboard, were about to be used! This couple loved nothing better than to dance.

She had a beautiful new dress with sparkling pink and silver accessories. He sported a new pair of Columbia pants, a splurge for sure from the local Arlims store on Main Street and a lovely plaid shirt to provide contrast. Dashingly handsome he was!

In preparation for the big night, they chose to eat little during the day. As usual, she packed a light lunch for later in the evening camouflaged in a rather large blue shoe bag. In it were goodies such as her salt and vinegar chips, his buttered purity milk lunch biscuits and a bit of chocolate yummmmm. And to top it off, the Gaviscon for forecasted indigestion, but all worth it. They were indeed ready to take on the night with their favourite DJ Mr. Chris Tiller himself!

Off they went! She, the middle aged debutante in her period long black “Christmas Coat” as the children referred to it in earlier years, with her long red warm alapaca scarf and mittens. He believed that they could have been on the cover of The Downhome for certain, if not Vogue itself!

Off they drove to the K of C building. She was the first to note the lack of lighting around the building. he was the first to note the emptiness of the adjacent parking lot. In unison they cried out “ OH NO, IT’S CANCELLED!” After a moment or two, she had an inkling feeling and quickly turned on the cab light to check the print on the tickets. The mystery was quickly solved, THEY WERE ONLY 24 HOURS LATE FOR THE PARTY!

By this time anyone walking or drive close by would have heard the uproarious sounds of boisterous laughter coming from within the aging wine colored Honda Accord! He and she were buckled over having difficulty formulating anything verbal. Eventually, his first words were “ What are we gonna eat now”. Her first words were “But I dressed up so pretty!”.

Well you know the old saying ‘all is well that ends well’…this colourful couple discussed their options and decided that as they missed the party at the K of C building, they would stay with the theme and pick up Kentucky Fried Chicken(KFC) for a late candlelight dinner! As the car was approaching the neighbourhood, he discreetly dimmed the headlights hoping the neighbours wouldn’t notice their premature return.

So, here they were back at home, bellies full of chicken, about to embark on a slow dance with music provided by CFCB Cabin Party Radio Show! As he was known to say, ‘you can take it from there’.
