Saltwater Rebirth
In my dreams, I escape
To a secluded space where I can be me
Where I'm no longer torn apart at the crossroads of my hometown
As they intersect, impaling my soul
I'll run away to where the hills meet the sky
And the water reflects a stillness in meĀ
I'll walk along a quiet roadĀ
Through the grass intertwined and grown over my bare feet
With the sounds of the swelling sea;
I'll exhale yesterday
Bottle it with a message for a version of me I havenāt met yet, a eulogy of my past lifeĀ
And let it wash away
The street signs of my childhood drive still whisper my name
Each cracked sidewalk, a scar I once bled
As small towns tend to puncture the heart
And smear spirits along the avenueĀ
But today, the breeze teaches me how to breathe again
I let the sea salt baptize my skin
Iāll rise again like waves
Not as who I was, but who I am becomingĀ
