NL Nursery Rhyme?
Dear Downhome, Years ago I learned the following: "Sleep baby sleep, your father sails o'er the deep. The birds have flown to the mates they love, The angels have lighted the stars above, Sleep baby sleep." Over the years, I have sung those words while rocking my own babies, babies in the hospital in the nursery and on the children's unit, and even to my own grandchildren. I'd love to know who wrote the words and if there are other verses? I may be asking the wrong source, but I feel this song would have been written in the Maritimes. I can picture a mother rocking a baby, watching for the baby's father to come home from fishing (perhaps the man is a deep-sea fisherman?) Sooo many questions, please help satisfy my curiosity. If I am on the wrong track, feel free to ignore this letter. Will be watching upcoming issues of Downhome for info. Thank you, A Faithful Reader Submitted By: R. Pilon
