The Last Night Of The Caribou
It was October, 13th, 1942
They were catching a ride on the Caribou
On their way to Newfoundland
In the middle of world war two
With a hundred ninety one souls onboard
All of who will become victims of war
A war that will shake Canada's security
As the last night of the Caribou will hit reality
With such a simple task
Sailing to Port aux Basque
On the great Atlantic blue
In the middle of world war two
Under the watchful eye
Of the minesweeper Grand'Mere
With the dark October sky
And a German U-boat sitting nearby
As the Caribou rocks gently in the waves
The U-boat grasps a deathly gaze
All under the morning moon
Of October, 14th, 1942
Torpedo fired
Racing towards the Caribou
Ear splitting explosion
White flash, black smoke
Lights flickering gasping for life
Glass shimmering and dancing
As the water flows through
The Caribou's gaping wound
Sinking into the Atlantic blue
All in the middle of world war two
Taking down a hundred thirty six souls of who
Had just taken their last ride on the Caribou
