Banyan Tree
In an ancient, quiet courtyard,
A mass of roots and vines,
The banyan tree ostentatiously,
Is a testament to time.
The very first one planted,
In the good old USA,
Was by Thomas Alva Edison,
In Fort Myers, Florida one day.
That banyan tree was originally,
Only four feet tall
Now it covers four hundred feet,
From a seed so very small.
Though myth and mystery surround it,
The truth of the matter is,
The banyan tree is a giant weed,
Known as the strangler fig.
A thing of beauty nevertheless,
Who cares where it got its start?
The banyan tree is remarkable,
It’s a natural work of art.
