Here is a poem I wrote in Alberta two years ago; I posted it on Facebook for my friends. As it is copyrighted you have my consent and permission to publish it in your fine magazine.

My Newfoundland the place I love

Let me tell you of a place that's dear to me

A wind-swept island surrounded by sea

Her rugged coastline that waves crash upon

While overhead seabirds glide by singing their song

Her pristine rivers lakes and ponds glisten in the sun

Where as a boy I fished, swam and boated for fun

Her beautiful forest with trees thick and tall

That built our homes and boats also gave firewood for all

Her wonderful people honest, fun, genuine and true

That endured too many hardships for me to tell you

The many types of fish that men and women brought ashore

Something for everyone cod, halibut, lobster, shrimp and scallops galore

It's a land where moose, caribou, rabbits and foxes play

Along with many other wild animals everyday

Where the beautiful mountain scenery of Gros Morne touches the sky

Also the little outports in their slender meet the sea close by

Yes it took a special breed of people along with God above

To make this place called Newfoundland the place I love
