Balsom Clan Kitchen Party 2014<br /> <br /> Now wasn&acirc;€™t that a Kitchen Party....<br /> <br /> My niece Krista was getting married in her hometown of Hickman&acirc;€™s Harbour on August 16th, 2014.&Acirc;&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Like most Newfies who have schooled, travelled and lived off the Rock, there were many 1st-time visitors to be invited to the wedding. As my family has a second home in Terra Nova, that is where we offered to throw them a TRUE Kitchen Party like they had never known and would never forget, in the village of Terra Nova on the 14th of August at the Eddie Eastman Hall.<br /> <br /> A real Newfie Scoff &acirc;€&quot;with 50+ traditional plates (jiggs dinner, fish and brewis and cod tongues)&Acirc;&nbsp; lobster pots, tabletop light houses, and even a line with clothes hung throughout the hall.<br /> <br /> 128 were fed salt fish cakes, atlantic crab, moose stew, and the offering of Newfie Spirits. Entertained by my family&acirc;€™s friends: Anita Synard Lambe and Friends, Tom &amp; Pearl, Jean Chatman on the Accordion, and Barry Keating and Howard Brown (wedding guests even were allowed to partake in playing the spoons, the Ugly stick, and sing at the open mike &acirc;€&quot;we have pics to prove it).&Acirc;&nbsp;<br /> <br /> Getting down to a Newfie jig, the &acirc;€œ709 song&acirc;€ (my fave) and no Newfie Party is complete without&Acirc;&nbsp; the &acirc;€œMummers&acirc;€ making an appearance and everyone getting Screeched In (certificates in hand). It was a Kitchen Party to remember... and all I later heard throughout the wedding: &acirc;€œWhen is the next one?&acirc;€<br /> &Acirc;&nbsp;<br /> The Balsom Clan of Clarenville sure know how to do it up.
