My husband and I have just celebrated our 39th anniversay and we have been together for way over 40 years. I have been coming to Newfondland every year durning our early years of married life and the most fond memories I have are meeting my father-in-law David and Myra (now deceased) for the first time. All Reg's sibblings were very young at the time. His second oldest brother Malcom and His wife Margaret who live in Toronto where we live were our best friends. There was time that we use to travel down home together. His next brother Wilbert was not that old, then there was Normie, Maxine and Linda. I remember going there for our vacations and loving the beautiful land and sea. I would love to go up the hill beside my husband's home and sit up there and look at the sea, feel the beautiful breeze of the salt water. Sometimes I felt the loneliness of Ontario, but I always felt good being on this beautiful island. The fond memories I have are the time when the cod fish was plentiful and sitting with my mother-in-law Myra waiting for Dave to come home after being gone since early in the morning and very late when he would come home. There where time when Reg would go out with his father. He was the eldest in the family and he started to fish with his dad at a very young age. He never had the chance to get a good education because he had to help his dad. But this is what it was in those days. He left the island at a very young age. But the memories that I have of coming to Newfoundland was the friendliness of the people and how they were all so eager to share with us every place we would visit. I had met Harry Hibbs the night I met my husband at the Caribou Club in Toronto and I always had a love for his music. Even to this day my husband will put his Newfie music on and when I hear it I do feel the loneliness for his family being so far from us. The Newfies share the same family values as our first nations people. I am an Ojibway Traditional Woman; my name is Standing Strong Bear Woman. And family values are very important to us.
