When I Was Young In Newfoundland By William Gale When I was young in Newfoundland, we would know on Nan’s door and come in. Most of the time there was a yeast smell. When I was young in Newfoundland, we would go squid jigging and I would never get sprayed. Later, we would either fry the squid in butter or stuff them. When I was young in Newfoundland, my sister and I would go down to the store. There we would buy candy. After that we would go back to the house and watch T.V. When I was young in Newfoundland, we would go cod fishing. Afterward we would cut the cod and put them in a stew. When I was young in Newfoundland, we would walk around the shore looking for shells. When I was young in Newfoundland, we would walk out to the lighthouse. When I was young in Newfoundland, we would go out to the cove and boil mussels. When I was young in Newfoundland, I never wanted to go to Alberta, and I never wanted to go to Manitoba. I never wanted to go anywhere else in the world for I was in Newfoundland, and that was always enough. William will be 12 this year. He chose to write about this topic for a school assignment. He is the grandson of Beulah Gale, from Westport, White Bay, Newfoundland. We make our trips back home as much as we can and we often wondered if our kids missed the trips to Disney World, etc. for our Newfoundland visits. Now we know that our trips back to Newfoundland have meant alot to our kids and that they have memories that will hopefully keep their Newfoundland roots strong.   Submitted By: Candice Gale
