In spring 2010, we rescued this beautiful one year old dog from Natuashish, Labrador. We called her Lucy and she quickly became part of our family. The following year, we rescued a two year old name Bobby and they quickly became “the dogs” as one entity. Wherever you found one, the other was not far behind. We moved to St. John’s from Labrador and had a high fence erected to keep them in, but sometimes they managed to get over, under, or around the fence. Late on September 20, 2013, they escaped the yard and we searched in vain, but could not find them. It was a dark and rainy Friday night, and difficult to see two black dogs so we finally headed home and waited for them to return. In the middle of the night, Bobby came home, but not Lucy. With the help of family and friends, we searched for three full weeks. We live in the west end of St. John’s so we searched all that area, Bowring Park, Kilbride, Goulds and Mount Pearl. We checked under trees and bushes, on walking trails and in wooded areas; and I posted 140 posters hoping to find Lucy, but without luck. When she disappeared, she had a name tag on her collar with two contact phone numbers so I called vet clinics, all the dog pounds, and flooded facebook and local internet sites. I followed every lead, even those that were miles away in Paradise. Nothing! Lucy had vanished! I finally had to admit that Lucy wasn’t coming home anymore. I was heartbroken. Bobby was acting like he had lost his best friend, which he had, and I felt like I had lost mine. I heard about this man who was stealing dogs and selling them on the internet. I have no idea if Lucy was a victim of this theft, but I suspect she was. One year later, I still don’t know where she is, if she is loved, or even alive. Lucy may be with a wonderful family who loves her as much as we did, and that’s ok. After all this time, she would be settled into her new home and happy. I don’t want to take her away from there, but I want to know she is alive and happy! She was a precious part of our family. If Lucy was stolen and sold, she could be anywhere in Canada.
