Growing up in St. JohnÂ’s and having most of my motherÂ’s family in Northern Newfoundland, my brother and I spent many summers in Raleigh, CookÂ’s Hr, L'Anse aux Meadows and St. Anthony never dreaming that one day I would be living in Lab. City, Wabush and Goose Bay. My husband opened the new post office in Wabush after working as Asst, P.M in Lab City. We spent five years there before being posted to Clarenville. From there it was back to Goose Bay for a short stay. Several years ago we were lucky to be able to take the boat from Lewisporte to Goose Bay, spend a week there with our nephew and then drive to Wabush. It was an interesting drive in spite of the mostly gravel road. We found the drivers were very courteous and everyone slowed when passing. It was great to see the changes made since 1964 when the R.C. church was just a basement and the school one level. The only restaurants were at the hotel and the rec centre. The most livestock we saw on the trans-Labrador Highway were stouts and they made getting out of the car almost impossible. After a too-short stay we headed home to Fredericton crossing from Godbout, Quebec to Matane, N.B. The booklet brought back memories. Keep up the good work folks.
