Dear Ron; I wish to congratulate photojournalist Shawn Hayward for his excellent article, “Seniors Take the Lead (October 2013 issue),” about our group here in Clarenville. In addition to the activities mentioned in the article, I would like to comment on what I consider to be an important omission. About once every two or three months we are invited to the Dr. O’Mahoney long-term health centre and the Clarenville Retirement Centre to have a sing-along with the residents. There is something about music and singing that helps the soul of all. Although some of the residents, due to medical conditions, cannot sing, one can detect them tapping their hands to the beat of the music or brightening up with a smile which indicates, “I think I know that song.” After one such visit I commented to our pianist/director Judy Northcott, “This community outreach by our Gather Group is a well ‘raison d’être.’”   Submitted By: NULL
