Downhome Magazine always travels with us.

One of the first things we pack for our travels is our latest copy of the Downhome Magazine.
My wife, Sharon and I were recently on a river cruise. While we were cruising down the Danube River, between Prague and Budapest enjoying the beautiful scenery, we were thinking that nothing could compare to this newest adventure. I opened the April edition of the Downhome Magazine and started reading your letters to the editor section and there on page 18 was the "Thank You" that Sharon sent as a result of you posting the Christmas photo of our grandson, Cole in your December issue. Seeing this certainly added another smile to our day.
I also would like to thank you for an article that you published on our behalf a few years ago. My father, George Emberley, was born in Harbour Breton and I was looking for information on his ancestors or any stories related to his family. As a result of the posting in the Downhome Magazine, I had six individuals email me. This resulted in learning a lot of information about my family including the fact that my father was named after his uncle who went to fight in Beaumont Hamel, and was killed by a sniper in the trenches there.
We also found out that a well known auther, Robert Parsons, had written a book called Perils of the Sea and in the book he included a story about my grandfather, Joseph Emberley. My grandfather was a Captain on a vessel named The Wally G. He was shipwrecked off Canso, Nova Scotia, and although he survived by hanging on to a section of the ship, with only having one arm, his young nephew, perished. Growing up, we were never told this story. How interesting it was to hear of this while we were researching our family history. Mr. Parsons was kind enough to give us a bit more information about my grandfather as a result of the contact we made through Downhome Magazine.
Although I am not much of a reader, the Downhome magazine is one publication I read cover to cover and then pass on to other family members to read. My father always had a saying, "It doesn't cost anything to be polite" so I'm sending you a big thank you from my wife and I. We love your magazine, it is both entertaining and interesting and helps a lot of people track down history and long lost friends and family members. I am attaching a photo of my wife Sharon and I docked in Vienna, on the AMASerena. We are holding our April issue of the Downhome Magazine. Keep up the great work. Thanks again.
