My name is Boyce Campbell, and I am from Charlottetown, Labrador. I came to Afghanistan in November 2010. Matt Westcott is from St. Johns, Newfoundland, and came to Afghanistan in March 2011.

We crossed paths when he came to live in the same SP (Strong Point) where I was currently employed. As soon as the first greetings were spoken, "Hey, I'm Boyce, how are ya?" "I'm Matt, good b'y, what's da food like here?" I knew right off the bat, he was a fellow Newfie.

"Which part of da rock are ya from b'y?" The accents seem to come out twice as strong then.

We decided to put a little flag on our tent, to represent Newfoundland and Labrador. The support we get from family members, friends, and fellow Canadians in general, is overwhelming.

A few friends of mine sent some Downhome magazines, and it brought some good laughs, and "OMG I know that person" moments. We figured we would show da b'ys back home that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can manage to keep a smile, and make a time, no matter what the situation is!
