Porbeagle shark caught in fishing nets in Placentia Bay. The fisherman's name is Paul Mulrooney, he is the man who caught the monster. He caught this in his cod nets about a month ago, near Bread & Cheese Islands in Placentia bay. The shark was eight feet long and 407 lbs, the scientists at the Marine Science Centre in St. John's identified the species of shark and emailed us back, as no one eles seemed to know what it was. Paul gave it to a local fish processor to see if any one was interested in purchasing it but there was no taker, so they dumped it back into the ocean. The shark was too big for Paul to handle on his own as it was tangled badly in the nets so he had to tow it alongside of the boat from Bread & Cheese to Arnold's Cove wharf -for sure a couple of miles. It sure drew a lot of attention on the wharf that day. This is not the first shark Paul caught, over the past few years he has caught blue sharks, but the most interesting one was a hammer head two years ago.
